According to a July, 25 2005 South Bend Tribune article Hugo Gambetta was terminated from his position as Vice President for Multicultural Ministries of the Lake Region Conference as a result of what the Tribune calls “a Federal Probe” into illegal financial and immigration practices. Please feel free to look up this article at http://www.southbendtribune.com. The Tribune is a community newspaper not associated with the Adventist Church.
According to reports, Gambetta has started a new church (which is not Seventh-day Adventist) in Glendale, California. He has been recruiting members from existing Spanish language Seventh-day Adventist churches in the greater Los Angeles area. According to reports, he draws these members out of their churches by claiming to “preach the true Adventist message.”
There have been numerous reports that Gambetta is now telling these new church members that he was “terminated from the Lake Region Conference because he was preaching the true Adventist message.” According to official news reports, he was terminated due to the Federal investigation into his illegal activities while at the conference.
According to comments made by Gambetta followers, the Lake Region Conference simply “did not like” Hugo Gambetta and that was why he was fired from his conference position.
There are also new reports that many members are now diverting tithe to Gambetta who is using the funds to sponsor his new private church in Glendale, CA.
Gambetta, is alleged to have been involved in an illegal immigration scheme to bring people from South America to the United States to work without proper documentation. There is also financial corruption that is being investigated as a part of this scheme. According to the news reports, mullions of dollars of misappropriated funds are also under investigation of being used in whole or in part to perpetuate the scheme.
